If you apply for Danish citizenship, you must pass a special citizenship test to document knowledge of Danish social conditions, Danish culture and history. The citizenship test is a multiple choice test with 45 questions about Danish social conditions, Danish culture and Danish history. 35 of the questions are asked based on the teaching material prepared by the Ministry. In addition, the test consists of a total of 10 unprepared questions. 5 of them are current questions based on events that have taken place in the past 6 months prior to each exam. Furthermore, there are 5 questions about Danish values, which may deal with, for example, freedom of expression, equality or the relationship between religion and legislation. The test takes 45 minutes. To pass the test, you must answer correctly at least 36 out of the 45 questions, including you must answer correctly at least 4 out of 5 of the questions about Danish values. We hold the exam twice a year in June and November. There is no medical examination. You must bring ID with a photo issued by a public Danish authority, such as residence card, alien passport or convention passport, passport or identity card with photo issued by a public authority in another country.
